Bladehead
KxaylkxaWell-armored and with few natural predators, the Bladehead feeds primarily on thick-shelled nuts. Its head and mouth are shaped to maximize its capacity to break the shells, resulting in the mouth being curiously situated above the eyes.
Often traveling in packs ranging from four to eight individuals, the Bladehead has keen sight and hearing, though its olfactory capabilities are relatively modest in comparison. When threatened by large predators or aerial attacks, it lowers itself to the ground where it is protected by its enormous backplate, and its weight and low center of gravity make it almost impossible to tip.
The plow-like head is highly efficient in parting even the densest vegetation and can also be applied aggressively. A charging Bladehead can wreck vehicles and AMP suits alike with its considerable body mass.
A popular game among Zeswa youths - whose name translates roughly as ‘Stampede’ - involves two teams charging at one another, running low with shields held over their heads, imitating the Bladehead’s armor. One Zeswa is chosen to be in the middle and must avoid the charge from both sides. Injuries are frequent. A variation of this game is played by adults during the Zeswa’s frequently held inter-clan competitions.
