Buoyfish
LìngpayFound across the Western Frontier, Buoyfish are often spotted at the bottom of the rivers feeding on small fish and critters on the riverbed. They can do this for prolonged periods of time thanks to a pair of inflatable bladders that sit above the fish itself. With these, the fish can suspend themselves in place and remain stable as they feed. Their bladders are also used as part of a display during the Buoyfish’s mating ritual.
The fish itself has a large, colorful carapace which is sectioned across the body, allowing for flexible movement while serving as a defense against predators. The Buoyfish also has four pairs of strong fins that allow it to move at impressive speeds through the water, rapidly changing direction.
For many Na’vi clans, Buoyfish are a popular choice of protein in food dishes. This is thanks to their sweet, yet meaty flavor, as well as their abundance across the Western Frontier. It has been noted that Buoyfish from different regions harbor different flavors. This is due to the different river creatures the Buoyfish consume in different biomes.
