On September 10, 2022, D23 Expo brought the latest Pandoran adventure to eager Avatar fans. Chairman, Disney Studios Content Alan Bergman hosted the action-packed panel where Avatar: The Way of Water creators and cast members engaged attendees with exclusive stories about the second installment of the record-breaking film series. Kicking off the conversation were returning cast members, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang, who took the stage with producer Jon Landau. Academy Award–winning director and creator James Cameron joined them virtually to talk about the latest developments on the beautiful bioluminescent moon.
The original Avatar crew led an exciting conversation about the highly-anticipated sequel, which will venture out of Pandora’s rainforest and into its breathtaking ocean. In Avatar: The Way of Water, audiences return to the story over ten years after the epic events in Avatar took place, and a lot has happened since then. The original cast will be reprising their roles, with the exception of Sigourney Weaver, who will play Kiri and Stephen Lang who will return as a Recom version of Colonel Quaritch. Fans will be introduced to new characters throughout the aquatic sequel, from Jake Sully and Neytiri’s children to other members in and outside of the clan. New cast members, Jamie Flatters (Neteyam), Jack Champion (Spider), Bailey Bass (Tsireya), and Trinity Jo-Li Bliss (Tuk) joined the Avatar veterans on stage for an exciting appearance, giving audiences a look at the faces of the original and new generation of the film together.
Before the panel wrapped, attendees were given Dolby 3D glasses to wear as they turned their attention to the big screen. Awestruck audience members were brought to the edge of their seats as they dove deep into the immersive experience and were shown exclusive scenes from Avatar: The Way of Water. In striking 3D, the Hall D23 screen displayed a glimpse of the stunning visuals and thrilling aquatic adventures that will be coming to theaters. While the panel sneak peek left fans wanting more, they won’t have to wait much longer.
