February 16, (THEWILL) – Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, on Sunday morning foiled a robbery attack along the Odogbolu corridor of the Lagos-Benin Expressway, killing one suspect and arresting two others.
The Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the operatives engaged the armed robbers in a gun duel, during which one of the suspects was neutralized.
Adedigba disclosed that one of the suspects, Amechie Okoro, was arrested at the scene and later led security operatives to their hideout, resulting in the apprehension of another gang member, Michael Oko, who had initially escaped.
“During interrogation, Okoro confessed that he was recently released from Ikoyi Prison last Monday, while Oko claimed he was recruited into the gang by their leader, known as Awuha,” the statement read.
The security chief stated that the arrested suspects belong to a notorious robbery gang terrorizing motorists along the Odogbolu axis of the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
Items recovered from the gang included, one motorcycle with plate number Lagos KTU 668, twelve mobile phones of different brands, two locally made pistols, ₦113,050 in cash, one silver wristwatch and on red headphone,
Adedigba further revealed that Michael Oko, an Anambra native, resides at No. 3, Olufuwa Street, Ago-Iwoye, while Amechie Okoro, who hails from Onitsha, had been living in Agric, Ikorodu, Lagos State before his recent release from prison.
The remains of the deceased suspect have been evacuated by the police, while the two arrested suspects will be handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
