February 23, (THEWILL) – The police in Ogun State have launched an investigation into the death of a 50-year-old farmer, identified as Alfa Mustapha, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farm in Ageri Village, near Olodo, Odeda Local Government Area.
Mustapha was found dead after a team of policemen, upon receiving reports about his disappearance, combed his farm and discovered his lifeless body.
The Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha, had approached the Olodo Police Station at about 6:30 pm on Saturday to report that the deceased had gone to his farm in the morning but failed to return home.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday.
Odutola stated that, concerned about the deceased’s whereabouts, the Imam proceeded to the farm at about 6:02 PM, where he found the deceased lying face up with his cutlass beside him.
She explained that upon receiving the report, the police swung into action and visited the farm, where they confirmed his lifeless body. No signs of violence were detected on the victim’s body at the scene.
The Police PRO added that the scene was documented with photographs, and the corpse was evacuated to the General Hospital in Odeda for a medical examination.
She said that at the hospital, a doctor revealed that the deceased had been shot at close range. The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for further forensic examination.
“A doctor’s assessment later revealed that the deceased had suffered bullet wounds from pellets, indicating he was shot at close range,” Odutola added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. He assured the public that those responsible would be arrested and brought to justice.
