Hammerhead Titanothere
AngtsìkNearly twice the size of a Terran elephant, and significantly faster, these massive, six-limbed, titanothere hammerheads travel in small herds. These herbivorous creatures are moderately social, but also extremely territorial and hierarchical — each herd is led by a dominant alpha bull. Within their own species, rival alpha bulls frequently engage in spectacular battles.
Despite possessing four eyes, titanotheres have poor vision. However, they make up for their weak eyesight with an excellent sense of smell and hearing, detecting danger in an instant. When angered or threatened, it raises its purple crest, made up of brightly colored flaps of skin, lowers its head, and charges, crushing anything in its path. The sheer ferocity of a titanothere charge is usually enough to send any other Pandoran creature running.
While once thought to be bone, the formidable hammerhead structure projecting from the titanothere's head is cartilaginous. However, as the creature matures, its hammerhead becomes as solid as bone. Swinging their heads from side to side, bulls will attempt to injure their opponents’ eyes with the ends of their hammers. For extra protection in such fights, the titanothere’s tank-like body has overlapping bony plates on its shoulders and back.
