The iridescent and glimmering Shimmyflies inhabit fields of flowers in the Mo’ara Valley, a neighboring region of the Omatikaya-inhabited rainforest. Larval shimmyflies begin a long journey to these fields. When their journey has reached its apex, they will encase themselves in their chrysalis's and emerge a short time later as glinting adults. Apart from their eight wings and large size, their anatomy, life cycle and behavior are similar to those of Terran butterflies. Shimmyfly caterpillars feed on leaves; while their adult counterparts feed on nectar from flowers. For generations, the Na’vi have used the wings of deceased Shimmyflies in their personal ornamentation and decoration of headdresses, necklaces and other jewelry.
